Now the so called army of Free Speech advocates are no where to be found. They are very selective in their fight. We don’t know why? In some cases, Free Speech is being suppressed and in other cases the action is justified.
Hypocrisy or Selective Blindness!!??
Let’s start with a simple definition of ‘Fascism’.
Fascism is a movement that promotes the idea of a forcibly monolithic, regimented state under the control of an autocratic ruler.
Now let’s look at what happened in Maharashtra – A Union Minister was arrested by the State Government as he insulted the CM of the state.
This is no small news as this is the first time any thing of this sort has happened in India.
What did the Union Minister say?
Let’s just highlight the controversial remark that he gave. He said that he would slap the CM of Maharashtra.
And this led to several FIRs being filed against him and a swift arrest by the police.
We do not support or encourage this type of language by anyone specially from a Union Minister.
But the action taken by the Maharashtra government is so wrong in so many ways.
Let’s look at some examples and then understand this behaviors of Maharashtra government which some people in the media are terming as ‘Fascistic Behavior’ :
- In May 2018, Uddhav Thackeray reportedly said at a public gathering that he felt like hitting Yogi Adityanath with his footwear. This is also an insult to a sitting CM and yet no FIR or arrest took place in this case. Click here
- Since yesterday, BJP offices has been vandalized and direct threats on media channels are being given to the Union Minister that if he ever comes to Pune then he will be thrashed. No FIR or arrest has taken place in these cases.
- A Shiv Sena leader from Murbad taluka in Thane district beat up a man for his alleged objectionable remarks against CM Uddhav Thackeray.
- 6 Shiv Sena workers allegedly attacked a retired Navy officer over posting CM Uddhav Thackeray’s memes on social media.
The list goes on and it is a long list. These are enough to tell what is happening in Maharashtra.
Even the PM gets trolled and insulted on Internet on daily basis. Other CMs also face the irk of many people on several social networking website. But these many cases are just not right.
No one can voice their opinion and definitely no one can criticize the current government. This is definitely not good for our democratic setup.
If such an action can be taken against a Union Minister then the media will also stay silent on a lot of matter because Arnab Goswami case happened right in-front of our eyes and everyone saw how ugly it became.
A pubic figure like Kangana was given death threats and government machinery was used in a very unethical way just because they couldn’t stand someone’s opinion.
These cases showed us a very low level of behavior from a state government. State government reacting in a vendetta is definitely not acceptable. They have a bigger role as a guardian to the state but when your work cannot be criticized and no one can voice their opinion then we are heading towards a bad phase of politics in India.
Now there is a fear in the minds and hearts of common people in regards to saying anything about the current Government or the CM. No opinions would be given, no suggestions will be given and certainly no one is going to criticize them – just out of fear now.
Again, we will definitely point out that the language used by the Union Minister was totally inappropriate and everyone should avoid using such disrespectful language. But the state government behavior has been totally unacceptable and not just in this case but several others and they need to do major course correction otherwise this will be a direct threat to the roots of our democracy and constitutional structure holding this nation together.
