A movie with pretty cool college stuff, ample of dosti, comedy tadka, a love triangle as we know Karan Johar’s movie. But unfortunately you miss the ishq wala love in this movie as compared to student of the year.
The lead actor Tiger Shroff as (Rohan) a small town boy and the 2 leading actresses Tara Sutaria as(Mridula) and Ananya Pandey(Shreya) sister of Manav(Aditya Seal). From college campus, canteen to extra curicular activies are showen to be in focus. The lead actor Tiger Shroff pretty much carries the film on his well toned shoulders, and sweet boy charm works for the part. His strengths are showcased with skills and attention, whether his dancing, running on tracks or playing kabbadi or fights show his muscles and body in focus. Where the lead actress Tara Sutaria & Annanya Pandey are glamed up wearing designer wear that money can buy. But their roles are not that perfectioned. Especially Tara’s character dosen’t seem well eteched out. While her screen presence is impressive, but her performance is average. But on the otherside, Thankfully Ananya’s character gives a definite curve and a backstory works convincingly in her favour. The performace gradually grows on you, especially her meet cute scenes with Tiger shroff. And Aditya Seal, he pulls off his part well, as a rich spoilt brat.
While there was far more scope for comedy, some of best laugh moments came from Tiger’s gang of friends. Among them, Harsh Beniwal leaves a lasting impression with his wisecracks and comic timing.
Director Punit Malhotra ensures that a lot of drama, action remain out of the classroom, with focus on sports, dance and romance, not that the new age campus kids will complain. However, the chemistry between Tiger and the two lead actress doesn’t quite warm your heart. And the movie comes seven years after SOTY, the writing doesn’t seem to have that interesting. The music is quite average as compared to student of the year, which had songs like Radha and Disco could probably feature even today on your playlist. The editing is also average, the film could have been of shorter time lapse. While the first half is spent in setting the tone of the film, second half gets more exciting when the drama and action begin.
Overall, Student of the year- 2 doesn’t have that Ishq wala love, but there is ample dosti, high school drama and cool stuff to keep you going. With enough lessons in styling and fashion.
