The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ran away with a big win in the Delhi Election 2020. What does this mean in terms of overall politics? Does it even imply anything or will this have a bigger impact later on? Who knows?
I clearly wanted the BJP to win the Delhi Election 2020. I would be lying if I said otherwise. We are an opinionated platform and we should own it. But the bigger picture is to analyze why AAP won and why people of Delhi gave their precious votes to the Aam Aadmi Party? They must have had good reasons for it, I am sure. We are missing a few pieces and that’s what we are going to explore.
One of the main reasons for the Aam Aadmi Party to come out as a winner was the ‘face of the party‘ : Arvind Kejriwal.
AAP had their Chief Minister candidate ready and that was Arvind Kejriwal. None of the other parties in the race could even finalize a person as their CM candidate. Now some might say that Manoj Tiwari was the CM candidate from BJP but as it was never official so we cannot take it. Especially as BJP has a history of surprising everyone with the CM names after elections – Yogi Adityanath & Devendra Fadnavis!!
Now, let’s focus on the agendas of their respective campaigns.
AAP came out and said we will fight these elections on the agenda of ‘Work Done‘.
They said that if we have done good work then give us votes otherwise don’t vote us. This was amazing as it showed the confidence in the party that they back themselves with the work they have done in the last 5 years.
Now I don’t know how much relevant work AAP has done in Delhi because I don’t live there (so we will not go in details on this topic as ground reality differs from what is on the papers), so it was totally for the people of Delhi to decide – the voters to decide.
BJP, on the other hand, fought this election on National issues. I will not go in detail into the issues as everyone knows. I just want to say that National issues are important as we are Indians first, but Delhi state election needs focus on the Delhi the state also. BJP has been elected with thumping majority in the center on their National issues. Now BJP should have come up with an election campaign about Delhi. They have to show and convince people that they have a 5-year roadmap for the state and they also have a leader (CM candidate) that people can trust.
It was a 2 horse race with Congress no-where to be found. But in the end, it was Arvind Kejriwal & his party AAP that won the Delhi Elections 2020 convincingly. Congrats to each and everyone in AAP & also to the people who voted for them.
Congratulatory wishes for AAP & Arvind Kejriwal. Hope they do great work for the people of Delhi and I hope centre provides them with full support whenever they require it. Its all about our country and we should help each other to take it forward. People’s mandate is supreme and all should respect it.
