Story so far :
Arvind Kejriwal went and met Congress President Rahul Gandhi and proposed an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. There was no outcome of the meeting – Congress will not form an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party
Arvind Kejriwal told reporters : “They (Congress) have almost said ‘no’ for an alliance.”
Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit told reporters : “A unanimous decision has been taken that there will be no alliance in Delhi.”
History :
AAP basically won Delhi election because the people of Delhi got fed up with Congress government. Sheila Dixit was the CM of Delhi for continuous terms. People of Delhi didn’t want any of the other political parties to come into power as well – because they wanted a new school of thought. AAP looked like a new ray of hope. People of Delhi gave AAP an astounding victory of 67 out of 70 seats in Delhi assembly election. This was a direct message sent by people of Delhi to all political parties.
Fast forward to 2019 :
Now AAP is keen on having an alliance with Congress. WHAT!!!!!!!!?????
To defeat BJP, AAP should not compromise with their principles. They should not forget why they came into existence and why Delhi people backed them.
Having an alliance with the former rival to defeat another rival – this type of politics was not expected of AAP (they were supposed to be different).
And if AAP has done commendable work in the last 4 years in Delhi then they should be confident that they have the backing of the people and they will win the seats from Delhi this time.
And the surprising thing is that AAP is the party asking for coalition and Congress is the hesitant one.
I request Arvind Kejriwal to not dive into this political alliance compromising its founding principles. AAP is going the same route as the other political parties and they have already damaged their image a lot but this time they are the one initiating such a step.
